Mark Pierce, an Austin-based aviation trial attorney, has been elected to chair the Aviation Law Section of the State Bar of Texas for 2017-2018.
A former president of the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association and past chair of the Aviation Section of the American Association for Justice, as well as an FAA-certified commercial pilot and flight instructor, Mr. Pierce plans to drive the Aviation Law Section forward as a resource for attorneys whose practices are related to aviation, and for their clients and the aviation industry.
Mr. Pierce represents pilots and families in airplane and helicopter crash cases, as well businesses in disputes involving aircraft. He has secured multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements for persons injured or killed in airplane crashes and helicopter crashes, and has recently been acknowledged for achieving the largest aviation jury verdict in Texas for 2016. His courtroom victories and settlements as an airplane crash attorney have put him on the Super Lawyers® list (a service of Thomson Reuters) for aviation lawyers in Texas for seven years in a row.
The mission of the Aviation Law Section of the State Bar of Texas is to provide education and information that equips, encourages, and supports attorneys practicing aviation law in Texas.
With over 300 attorney members in 2018, the Aviation Law Section’s continuing legal education programs encompass a wide range of aviation-related legal issues, including aircraft safety, airport operations and security, airplane and helicopter acquisitions and operations, business and insurance disputes, airline regulation and operations, air traffic control, taxation, and litigation.
“In my area of practice involving aircraft litigation, and in the transaction-based practices, the Aviation Law Section of the State Bar of Texas needs to, and will, bring value to attorneys who operate in this complex field of law, and to our clients who deserve top-flight, well-informed representation,” Mr. Pierce said.
